@circlehousing – Our Survey Says: 98% of Residents Against Demolition! #ravensbury #mitcham #morden

Dear Circle Housing (amongst others),

Our Survey Says: 98% of Residents Are Against Demolition! #ravensbury #mitcham #morden

Over the past few months, we as the Ravensbury Residents Association thought it correct to properly canvas opinion in order to demonstrate the strength of feeling here in the area that Merton Council and Circle Housing like to refer to as the Ravensbury Estate. We call the area “Ravensbury Village” because that is far better a description of what we have here as a community.

The reasoning behind why we felt the need for a survey of this kind was because members of the “Circle Housing Regeneration Game” had consistently stated that most people were in favour of regeneration through demolition. Seeing as most residents that we had spoken to personally were outraged by the possibility of their area being demolished, we felt the need to knock on doors and speak to residents directly.

We set out two petitions for our residents to respond to. The first was whether or not the residents thought Circle Housing would “destroy our community, environment and the character of our area with their proposals”. This was based on what Circle had told the residents during the consultation and on the materials they had displayed during the consultation. The second was whether or not they thought the consultation held water – “Do you support a motion of NO CONFIDENCE in Circle Housing’s attempts at consultation?”

Here are our results:
Survey on 19th August 2014: 98% of Ravensbury Residents were against the demolition of their homes, preferring refurbishment as opposed to demolition. This survey covered homes from across the residential area. In addition, 100% of Ravensbury Residents were of the opinion that “Circle Housing’s regeneration team will destroy our community, environment and the character of our area with their proposals”.
On top of these damning figures, 100% of residents in the Ravensbury Village supported a motion of “NO CONFIDENCE in Circle Housing’s attempts at consultation”.
Survey on 4th July 2014: 100% of those who live in Hatfeild Close agreed that “Circle Housing’s regeneration team will destroy our community, environment and the character of our area with their proposals”.
Survey on 26th August 2014: 100% of those in Ravensbury Court agreed that “Circle Housing’s regeneration team will destroy our community, environment and the character of our area with their proposals”. 100% of Ravensbury Court residents also supported the NO CONFIDENCE motion.

These figures rubbish the claims made by those running Circle Housing’s regeneration game that most residents are in favour of their regeneration through demolition.

Our next meeting is on Thursday, 2nd October 2014. In addition, we will have a discussion about the Merton Council questionnaire this Tuesday evening (29th September 2014) from 630pm onwards.
